About The TM Scorecard

SustainableAmherst.org has reviewed the voting records of all Town Meeting members against 34 specific benchmark votes that we feel impacted fiscal sustainability for Amherst. (see bottom for list of benchmark votes).

We have listed for every Town Meeting member the following data:

Term Expires = When is this member up for re-election

Attendance Record = A good amount of life is about just showing up!

SustainableAmherst Voting Record = How the member has voted on the fiscal sustainability votes we have benchmarked.

SustainableAmherst Rating = Based on their votes, we calculated a Rating for each member (see bottom for formula).

  • Above-zero rating means that this member voted favorably for a fiscally sustainable Amherst over half the time.
  • Below zero means they did not.
  • n/a means they had less than 3 votes cast, so we did not apply a rating.

How Did We Analyze the Vote?

Well, first off, thanks to Stephanie and Jonathan O'Keeffe's fabulous website, TallyVotes.org, for the voting data. You can put together your own analysis of TM using their website!

We chose 28 of the recorded (tally) votes from Town Meeting over the past 5 years that were good indicators of whether a member was voting for or against an Amherst that could be fiscally sustainable to support strong schools and services. Below are the votes.

SustainableAmherst Rating
The rating was
calculated by +1 point for every vote that agreed with the SustainableAmherst list of votes (above) and -1 point for every vote that did not. There were 34 votes - not all members were in Town Meeting or present for every vote - so there is a maximum score of +34 to -34 for the ratings.

  • An above zero rating indicates the member voted the SustainableAmherst way over half the time (+34 is a fiscally sustainable rock star, agreeing with every position!).
  • A below zero rating indicates the member voted against a SustainableAmherst more than half the time (-34 completely disagrees with every SustainableAmherst philosophy).
